Summers End 2021:
Saturday September 11th, 2021
Canton of Beau Fleuve
(Sanborn, NY)

Last updated: 9/5/21 - changes are in Bold

Shawnee Firehall,  3747 Lockport Rd. Sanborn, NY 14132

Announcing the Summer's End event hosted by the Canton of Beau Fleuve! We have reserved the date of  September 11, 2021. Mark your calendars!

Please note, this event will be held in accordance with the CDC, State, County, and BOD guidelines as of May 2021. These guidelines could change and we will update the site as needed. That being said, this will be a slightly different Summer End than in previous years. There will be no feast or side board: please bring your own food and beverage. Pre-registration for the event is required and the event is limited to 300 people by the site. Neither the Canton of Beau Fleuve nor Shawnee Fire Hall will require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test, but, if you are sick, please stay home.

Due to the rising cases of the Delta variant, the county has re-instituted a mask mandate for everyone who enters the firehall, regardless of vaccination status or the current SCA and Kingdom policy. If you enter the firehall, you must wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose. If you are outside, you may remove your mask, if you wish. I will have a box of medical-style face masks for anyone that forgets or loses theirs.

The event guidelines can change as BOD, County, State, and CDC guidelines change. Please check this web site for any changes. Also check out for up to date information about the Kingdom and BOD guidelines.

Although the SCA complies with all applicable laws to try to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.

Come one, come all to Summer’s End in the Canton of Beau Fleuve. Join us for a day of Heavy fighting, Archery, Thrown Weapons, Fencing, and Arts and Science. There will be no feast or side board, so please bring your own food and drink. The site will have plenty of open space if you wish to bring a pop-up or a pavilion. We do have the use of the hall, but we don't want everyone packed together, inside. There are restrooms indoors as well as ones accessible from the corner of the building nearest the "barn".

We will have water coolers, but attendees will have to bring their own drinking containers.

This year's event will be held at the Shawnee Firehall, 3747 Lockport Rd. Sanborn, NY 14132. Site opens at 9:00am and closes at 9:00pm. This is a different site than the one used in 2019.

Your autocrat will be Caleb Reynolds (J C Ronsen, 64 Thurston Ave, Kenmore, NY 14217 716-873-7057 jcronsen AT gmail DOT com).

Activities will include:
Heavy and rapier combat.
Archery and Thrown Weapons.
An A&S competition and a face mask competition (more details further down).

Site Registration:
Adult (18yrs and over) Event Registration $13
Adult Member Discount Event Registration $8
Youth (under 18yrs) Event Registration Free

All attendees must pre-register for the event by 9/8/21. The event is limited to 300 people by the site, and we will take pre-registrations up until 9/8. On 9/9 we will announce if we have any open spots for walk ins (this site limitation might change as county guideline change).

Pet friendly site, dogs allowed outdoors, please clean up after them.
Site is wet: alcohol is permitted for adults 21 and over. Please clean up after yourself.
Open flames are allowed.

E-mail aelorax At roadrunner DOT com for any questions

Please include an E-mail address so that Mistress Jenna can contact you for confirmation of your pre-registration. Also, make sure to include all youth attendees, even through there will be no charge for them: we do have to keep track of the total number of people on site.

Also, please include your SCA membership number, if you have one.

Make Checks payable to SCA NY, Inc - Canton of Beau Fleuve

The site cap for Summer's End is 300 people, which is a limitation by the site. It looks like we will have around 100 open spaces based on the number of pre-regs we have received. So, we will be taking "at door" payments for people who don't think that their payment will arrive in time. There is no online payment method: I didn't get SCARS set up in time. Please E-mail Mistress Jenna (aelorax At roadrunner DOT com) to make a reservation and use the subject line Summer's End Reservation - final week - pay at door. Please include the following:
Number of adults with modern and SCA names, and membership numbers (if a member)
Number of under 18 year olds with modern and SCA names (if they have one), they do count towards the site cap.
Then, make sure you check in with Troll with cash or a cheque.
So, to re-iterate: you have to pre-reg to attend the event, but if you pre-reg this week, you can pay at Troll if you don't want to risk not having your cheque show up on time. Please do not show up to the event without first pre-reg'ing and getting confirmation: we have to stick to the 300 person cap and I don't want anyone driving umpteen miles only to be turned away.

Please note, even though SCA and Kingdom policy does allow us, the Canton and Event, to provide food (as of August 1st), we will NOT be offering feast or side board for Summer's End, this year. Our contract with the site does not include the kitchen, since the contract was signed when the county was restricting food preparation and serving. At this late date, it is not in our best interest to re-do our contract and scramble to find a feast-o-crat and slap together a feast. So, we will not be offering a feast or a side board. However, our guests (you fine people) can bring food for yourselves, friends and family. The vigils, that will be taking place, will also be free to bring food that they will have in their area. To summarize: the event will not be providing food, but our guest are more than welcome to bring their own food.

Face Mask Competition:

There will be a competition of Plague Face Masks - that is masks that cover the mouth and nose. Many people made fancy masks over the course of the past year, to go with their garb. Here is your chance to show off. There will be Three catagories:

1) Best use of heraldry. It could be yours, your household's, or the Kingdoms.

2) Best Decorated. Beads, jewelry, bangles or bells.

3) Best Plague Doctor Mask. I know several people who made plague doctor masks.

To enter, please wear your mask and say 'hello' to the Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael. They will pick the best mask of each category, so make sure that they see you wearing your mask.

Arts and Science Competition:

Bring something SCA related that you did during the pandemic. Anything that you made while you weren't able to attend events.  Anything SCA related: scroll, embroidery, garb, shoes. Ice Dragon level documentation is not required, but bring something that describes your project. It will be a populace judged competition (beans in a cup). If you wish to enter a period plague mask in both the A&S competition and the Mask competition, please include a picture of you in your mask with your A&S documentation.

To speed up entries. please bring with you a regular 8x11" piece of paper that includes your SCA name and a brief description of your entry. This can be used for your documentation, if you do not have stand alone documentation.

The AEthelmearc Children's Garb Table will be set up at Summers End.

Since this is a new site for us, here is what it looks like from the air:

There is plenty of space in the fighting and fencing area for pop-ups and pavillions. Please bring yours if you wish. The "Barn" has picnic tables so there will be space to sit, outside and out of the sun. The little building to the lower left of the "barn" is reserved for the MoLs. There is plenty of space for archery and thrown weapons and for pop-ups. The area marked as no parking for us is restricted to the fire fighters and for the fire trucks. .Accessibility parking is on the right-hand side of the building, near the troll.

Plenty of space for archery:

Plenty of seating in the "barn".

Plenty of space for combat.

More than enough space for vigils:
